What is a moving sale?

Also called: relocation sale, everything must go sale · Used in United States and Canada

A moving sale is a garage sale with a deadline attached. The household is relocating, the removal van is booked, and anything that has not sold by a fixed morning is either carried, stored, given away or put out on the curb.

What it actually means in practice

This makes them the best sale type for anyone furnishing a place on a budget. Sellers are not attached to the large items and would rather pay you to take the sofa than pay a mover to carry it, so prices on bulky goods fall hardest and fastest.

Ask what will be free on the last morning. A surprising amount gets left on the curb by noon rather than driven to a charity shop.

Estate saleAn estate sale liquidates an entire household at once — the furniture, the contents of every drawer, the garden and often the house itself — typically after a death, a move to smaller accommodation or a downsizing. It usually runs three to five days and is often handled by a professional company.Garage saleA garage sale is a household selling its own used belongings directly to walk-up buyers, usually from a driveway or garage, for a day or a weekend. Items are priced by the seller, cash is normal, and there is no shop, staff or warranty involved.Community saleA community sale is many households in one street, subdivision or neighbourhood selling on the same agreed weekend, sometimes promoted with a single map or flyer. Dozens of sales sit within walking distance, which makes it the most efficient way to cover ground.
