What we do

Get Garage Sales is a free listings map for second-hand sales. Anyone hosting a garage sale, yard sale, estate sale, moving sale or car boot sale can post it, and anyone looking for one can find it — sorted by how close it is to them.

Before this, finding a sale meant scanning classifieds, driving around looking for cardboard signs, or hearing about it too late. Every sale in one place, on one map, is a better answer.

Listings are written by the people holding the sales. We do not scrape, invent or buy listings, and we do not pad empty cities with fake ones — a city with no sales says so.

How addresses are handled

A sale's exact address stays private until the morning of the sale. Until then the map shows an approximate pin at neighbourhood level.

This protects hosts from having strangers turn up at their door days early, while still letting buyers plan a route.

Hosts can edit or remove a listing at any time, which takes the address out of public view immediately.

Where we operate

We currently publish local guides for 118 cities across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.

Each city page carries information specific to that place: the neighbourhoods where sales cluster, what the local rules say about permits and signage, when the season peaks, and how buyers and sellers usually pay.

Terminology follows the market. A car boot sale in Manchester and a verge sale in Perth are the same idea as a garage sale in Houston, and each page uses the words people there actually use.

How the site is funded

Posting a sale is free, and we take no commission on anything you sell. Money changes hands between neighbours, never through us.

The site is funded by advertising. Ads are served by Google, and our Privacy Policy explains what cookies that involves and how to opt out of personalised advertising.

Advertising never affects which listings you see or the order they appear in. Results are ranked by distance and date, nothing else.

Editorial guides

Alongside the listings we publish 18 guides on running and shopping garage sales — pricing, permits, signage, safety, timing, and what actually sells.

These are written in-house from primary sources: council and city guidance for anything about permits or signage, and our own experience of the marketplace for everything else.

Where local rules are involved we say plainly that they vary and that you should confirm with your own council or city. We would rather send you to check than state something with false confidence.

Reporting a problem

Every listing has a report link. We review reports and remove listings that are scams, duplicates, misleading about their location, or otherwise against our terms.

If something on the site is wrong — a broken page, an inaccurate permit summary, a listing that should not be there — please tell us and we will fix it.
